The Next Chapter

St Mary’s Church has been at the heart of Tattingstone for centuries; a place of worship, gathering, and shared history. Now, with support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, we are beginning an exciting new project to protect and celebrate this special building and the stories connected to it.

Increasing accessibility at St Mary's

In April 2025 we were successful in our application for a National Lottery Heritage Grant to improve accessibility at St Mary’s Church. The £232,766 award will be used to fund an exciting project addressing the limited facilities at the Church with the installation of both a toilet and self-contained kitchen. Accessibility issues caused by differing floor levels within the Church will also be addressed to improve movement around the building.

This project will address issues, remove barriers, and expand the use of the church and people’s engagement in local heritage.

Community Engagement

Alongside the building improvements, we will be developing an events and activities programme that invites people to use and experience the new church spaces in fresh ways. From talks and guided tours to creative workshops and family activities, the programme will offer opportunities for everyone to come together and enjoy the heritage of St Mary’s. We also hope to be working closely with the local school, giving children the chance to explore the church’s history through fun, hands-on experiences and to feel a real connection with its future.

Get Involved

If you’d like to get involved behind the scenes, we’re also looking for volunteers to help bring the programme to life. It’s a great way to meet people, share skills, and support your local heritage
